I steal a title from Tracey Emin’s work Why I never become a dancer. This is a respond performance to this title, 7 strangers contributed their own memory, writing and knowledge in 7 days.

A question was asked: Why I never become a dancer. In seven days we reviewed our personal archive, the actors had their own answers, and responded with performances. There is no director for this performance. As a binder, I combined the works of seven individuals on the last day through interrelation, and finally presented the performance that the audience saw.

This process is of great significance to me. As a performance artist, I often collaborate with others. But I avoid becoming a director during the collaboration. For me, the ideal role of the artist should be a catalyst. I try to mobilize the function of each individual and let them grow freely to get a surprising result.
